Judging Criteria

Keep in mind that you will be judged on the following:

1. Comprehension & Content:

  • Presentation provided clear background and significance to the research question.“the Why & What”
  • Presentation clearly described the presenter’s role in the research, the research strategy/design, and the results/findings of the research. “the How”
  • Presentation clearly described the (or potential) conclusions, outcomes and impact of the research. The “So what”
    Note: Research integrity is very important. Results, conclusions and potential outcomes should be realistic in respect to where the research is and what it may lead to.
  • The PowerPoint slide was well-defined and enhanced the presentation.

2. Engagement & Communication:

  • The oration was delivered clearly.
  • The language was appropriate for a non-specialist audience, or was accompanied with an explanation to make terms understandable to a non-expert audience? (note: non-specialist, not lay)
  • The presenter conveyed enthusiasm for the research, captured & maintained the audience’s attention.
  • The presenter was careful to not oversimplify or generalize their research
