U21 3MT Global Finals

Winner of UBC’s 2013 Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition, political science PhD student Serbulent Turan, has been invited to compete in the inaugural Universitas 21 3MT Global Final.

Earlier this year Serbulent was awarded top prize in UBC’s annual event. His winning presentation – Revolt, Revolution & Imagination – which articulates the scope and purpose of his PhD thesis work in only three minutes, has now been captured on video for entry into the first virtual global 3MT Grand Final.

Organized by Universitas 21 (U21), a global organization of research-intensive universities, entry is by invitation only to winners of 3MT events held this past year at a number of member universities around the globe. Adhering to strict format guidelines, the videos featuring top graduate researchers from 18 U21 universities will be judged according to 3MT guidelines by a panel of communicators and academics selected from member universities. UBC’s own Dr. Mary Lynn Young, Associate Dean in the Faculty of Arts will be among this year’s panel of experts.

The Judge’s Choice prize winner will receive a bursary of US$ 2,500 to visit a U21 university of their choice, to benefit their research or on-going career development. In addition a People’s Choice prize winner will receive a prize equivalent of $300 US. Both prizes will be awarded October 29, 2013.

VOTING IS NOW CLOSED, but you can still enjoy Serbulant’s video here:
