Top 3 – 2015 3-Minute Thesis Videos Posted

This year more than 100 University of British Columbia (UBC) graduate students took up the challenge of the Three Minute Thesis (3MT) with the aim of effectively expressing their thesis research as a three-minute speech for a general audience. Videos of the winner, runner-up and 3rd place finishers are now up on the Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies Youtube channel with additional semi-final and finalist videos to be posted within the coming week. Whether you choose to view one or many, we are sure that you will find inspiration, new knowledge and a fresh appreciation for the range and depth of graduate research happening across UBC’s graduate programs.

First place and People’s Choice

If you missed our live events at UBC, never fear, there are more great 3 Minute Thesis events on the calendar this spring at the local, regional, national and international level.

As part of the wrap-up of UBC’s Multidisciplinary Undergraduate Research Conference being held this Saturday, March 21st, finalists Zoe Lam – Linguistics, Pardis Lakzadeh- Population and Public Health, Ana Elia Ramon Hidalgo – Forestry and Miranda Meents – Botany will make their 3 minute presentations to the undergraduate research audience, sure to be an inspiring event.

Finalists Zoe Lam, Samantha Grist & Alexander Wright, MD/PhD programwill be reprising their presentations alongside the top three finishers from this year’s competition held at Simon Fraser University (SFU). Held at the Tapestry residence in the UBC Vancouver neighbourhood of Wesbrook Village, the event is open to residents and the general community alike, so please join in if you are looking to be enaged, educated and entertained all at the same time.

Zoe will also continue on to represent UBC at the 3MT Western Canada Regional Finals held April 30th at Thompson River University, Kamloops, B.C. Top finishers in that competition will advance to a virtual Canada-wide competition sponsored by the Canadian Association of Graduate Studies (CAGS).

In addition, Zoe Lam will be asked to represent UBC on the international stage this fall as part of the U21 virtual global 3 Minute Thesis event which brings together top finishers from events around the globe. We will let you know when entries from these competitions can be viewed and available for People’s Choice voting!
